Works made close to Doi Saket at Compeung Residency, half an hour from Chiang Mai. Near the Adobe style houses in which I stayed, there were two lovely lakes and Buddhist temples. I was told these paintings seem to capture rainy season in Chiang Mai, though the season was currently dry. These paintings I realized, were romanticizations or fictionalizations of Thailand. I painted these places as though I was Van Gogh in the Netherland fields, or Trinidad as Peter Doig, the streets as though I was Cecily Brown. As an outsider I was imagining the place as something different than it really was. Is it possible to capture a place accurately?
