Fugue for Lost Voices

All that I’ve lived I have forgotten…All that I might be I don’t remember

– Fernando Pesso

This work concerns ideas of flight, escape, memory and dissociation.

It has developed from a consideration of the Fugue as a musical form, and has led to an exploration of the condition of dissociative fugue as an expression of a flight, or escape: from reality, or from normal life, or from the constraints of identity and memory.

Sal is working to develop visual metaphors for the state of memory loss, and the idea of escape, and the shadow of disturbance that might precede it. These visual representations will become moving image data that will ultimately be used in collaboration with the composer Kate Neal to develop a performative work.
