At the heart of my images I bring to light discussions around gender roles and the relevance this has in societies all around the globe. I’m searching for new and fresh ways in which to approach an old debate that resonate with contemporary society. Through using ideas of gender neutrality and breaking down typical roles with my images I hope to encourage open debate and discussions around these topics<\/p>\n
My work touches on issues that are relevant within my cultural surroundings and this residency would help broaden my perspectives and build upon my skills as an emerging photographer.<\/p>\n
Although my images feature nude models I actively try to disconnect from the automatic associations of sex and nudity. The work can be about sexuality but not about exploitation of the human form. I’m interested in learning about Thailand’s attitudes towards gender, sexuality and nudity and what social stigmas there may be. With these new found ideas will it develop and steer a path for the future of my photography practice?<\/p>\n
Having the opportunity to travel to a different culture and challenge my artistry is instrumental in my own personal development. Being able to interact and discuss my work directly with people will help inform and challenge my own beliefs and may shape how I approach issues of gender and social pressures in the future.<\/p>\n
I hope that being given the opportunity for a residency at ComPeung will have a profound affect on my work that will resonate for years to come.<\/p>\n
AdeY is a British born photographer based in Malm\u00f6, Sweden. AdeY\u2019s work captures those little moments of social oppression, humour, isolation, anxiety and depression. It recognizes that we not only change in relationship to our environment but that our environment adapts to what we become.<\/p>\n
The images depict imbalances evident in contemporary society today by directly addressing issues of gender, normative behavior and how society forces us to choose one direction or path. The subjects show our venerability, loneliness, strengths and expectations whilst highlighting the correlation between body and space.<\/p>\n
AdeY’s work has been featured in a number of different exhibitions and print and web publications. In 2015 he published his first photobook Right and Left<\/em> in Tokyo, Japan.
