My project explores human relationship with Mekong giant catfish inhabiting Thai rivers. We record video as a documentary (with one cameraman). I would like to do video production and work-in progress through 1 month’s field work in ComPeung . The first It will be to cooperate with Thai fisherman and investigate the inconsistency between acts of purchasing and releasing naturally, and acts of selling after catching the fish.
Actually, I will quote Japan’s Zen Buddhist culture for work creation at the same time. While it using the oldest ink painting, compare the religious nature of Japan and Thailand, we will approach that common item. This time I will carry out a body approach like Buddhism training. Through the view of religion I actually touched in Thailand, it will be an opportunity to see the new shape of art.
In addition, I will hold a solo exhibition at the gallery hall of Kyoto City University Art ( held in February of 2019). We aim to cultural exchange between Japan and South East Asia and further development of Asian art field. I will exhibit new works that will be made in the stay of ComPeung this time. And we will make the relationship between ComPeung and Kyoto, Japan more effective.
Kohei Maeda(b.1991) I am interested in relationships with people and things. “Mandelab Project” (2016) explored the philosophy of Kumagusu Minamata (Naturalist, 1867-1941). When I tried to create a place for interactive research. In my making process, people can see various coincidences. And I attach emphasis to the accident and treat it as a precious work. For Example, My body movement is very important. Because it changes time, place and situation. And it will have something effect. In recent years, I have focused on the form of people’s faith. I participate in Artist in Residence (Thai, 2018) That researching is main content of my making process. ”Itomu” (Gallery Parc 2019) expressed the form of Thai Buddhism by sculpture, image installation, performance. My works seems like a long documentary, and my work will reflect the real phenomenon of the people and society. However, the protagonist of my artwork is a symbol of the scenario-like fiction, which questions What’s the reality.
