Listening is Doing

The story of Nang Nak (นางนาก) is a well-known Thai ghost story embedded in culture. It’s something most Thai people are familiar with.

Language both facilitates communication and makes things very difficult. Under the umbrella of this project, I get to interact with people. My very limited Thai allows me to ask a question without understanding the answer. Working with a generous and talented interpreter sometimes provides insight, sometimes not.

This project is an excuse to meet and talk with people. Using the frame of video & art, I’m allowed access to perspectives and situations. Language becomes a vehicle for not just meaning, but experience. Listening is learning and doing.
